As we mentioned in our last blog post, one of the most common questions we hear from patients is “when am I done?” In an instant-gratification world, it can be hard for patients to accept the amount of time it will take to achieve a beautiful smile. There are ways, however, to speed up your treatment time with accelerated orthodontics.
Orthodontic technology has come a long way in recent years. There are now tools and procedures available that can help speed up your treatment time if necessary. The devices we commonly use are:
- AcceleDent. This procedure is perhaps our most popular one for accelerating orthodontics. It is a hands-free device that uses small vibrations to speed up the movement of your teeth. AcceleDent works in conjunction with your current treatment (braces or aligners), and is worn for a continuous period of 20 minutes per day.
- Propel. This device creates tiny holes in the bones and gums, which stimulates the surrounding bone and promotes healing, and in turn, helps to accelerate tooth movement.
What you can do
There are also things you can do as a patient to help accelerate your treatment. First, you should maintain excellent oral hygiene during treatment. Clean, healthy teeth always move faster and better than unhealthy ones. Additionally, unhealthy, inflamed gums will resist movement and can make treatment more uncomfortable.
You should also be sure to keep your appointments with your orthodontist. These appointments are incredibly important as they allow us to monitor your progress and make any adjustments or repairs. This way, we can be sure to keep your treatment on track so that we can move through the process as efficiently and effectively as possible!
Patience is key for a great smile
Regardless of the things we can do to accelerate treatment, it is important to remember that a beautiful smile takes time. The above methods will certainly help the process move more efficiently, but perfecting your smile doesn’t happen overnight! If you take care of your teeth, cooperate during treatment, and work with your orthodontist to create a treatment plan fit for your wants and needs, you will have a smile you love in no time!
